Verona. Biblioteca Capitolare. Codex LXXXV |
Hear, Lord, our prayers, that what is promised by the sanctification of your Word may be everywhere fulfilled with evangelical accomplishment/effect, and [that] the plenitude of adoption may obtain what the testification of truth foretells/predicts.
Alternative Collect for "regions where the Solemnity of the Ascension
is celebrated on the following Sunday," Friday, Sixth Week of
Easter, Roman Missal:
"Hear our prayers, O Lord, so that what was promised by the sanctifying power of your Word may everywhere be accomplished through the working of the Gospel and that all your adopted children may attain what the testimony of truth has foretold."
Prayer, Friday before Ascension Sunday, Liturgy of the hours (which is far looser, and, so, probably, the version in the pre-2010 Mass as well):
"Lord, hear our prayer that your gospel may reach all men and that we who receive salvation through your Word may be your children in deed as well as in name."
Corpus orationum no. 2481b (cf. no. 2481a, below) =Bruylants, vol. 1, no. 102, and thus the mid-8th- (but according to ODCC4 largely mid 7th-) century Gelasian sacramentary (Wilson p. 103, Mohlberg no. 553), etc. Mohlberg:
"Exaudi, domine, praeces nostras, ut quod tui Uerbi sanctificationem
promissum est euangelico ubique conpleatur effectu, et plenitudo
adoptionis obteneat quod praedixit testificatio ueritatis".
Corpus orationum and Wilson cross-reference the early 7th- (but largely 5th- or 6th-) century-dependent "Leonine" or Veronese sacramentary, i.e. no. 887 (or should that be 867?) in the post-Wilsonian Mohlberg edition:
"Exaudi, domine, praeces nostras, ut in omni na[tione], quod uerbi tui promissum est euangelio, conpleatur; et plenitudo adoptionis optineat, quod praedixit testificatio ueritatis".
Hear, Lord, our prayers, that in every nation what is promised by the gospel of your word may be fulfilled; and [that] the plenitude of adoption may obtain what the testification of truth fortells/predicts.
